Oops, GM called the date code correctly in your other post, 20th week of 1972.

A sure test to differentiate between a 604E and 605B is total weight - the 604E weighed 34 pounds (with N1500-A network) and the 605B weighed 28 (with N1600-D network). Another method is to measure the depth of the compression driver, (the smaller of the two round structures); a 604E compression driver should be 3 11/16 inches deep and a 605B's would be 3 1/4 inches.

i have noticed that the box dimentions for the 605-b is ummm ? I can find 604 e.
but nothing for 605 b.

and you peeps really are a huge help with these cause everyone i ask says throw em out there out dated.

Ack! I forgot about the difference in depth due to the 604's 802 Vs the 605's 806.

If you just want to use the Altec recommended cab then build the 612, which is ~6.162ft^3 net with a 604E/44 Hz Fb, otherwise I recommend ~10 ft^3 tuned to Fs and dial in series resistance until it's ~flat in-room.
